TEEN TALK: The Women's Commission is sponsoring a lecture on "How to Talk to Adolescents: Peer Pressure." Elizabeth Lee Nelson and the staff of the Student Health and Counseling Center will make the presentation from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Learning Resource Center at the Health Sciences Center. MELLON AWARDS: The Mellon Faculty Development Awards, totaling $47,123, were distributed on Oct. 15 to the following applicants. HOLIDAY POSTCARDS: This month the Saint Louis University archives begins a year-end tradition of displaying selected holiday-themed postcards from the Cyril Clemens Collection. Showcased are colorful examples of the printer's art illustrating the joys of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. Also on view is an assortment of modern-day Christmas cards. The exhibit runs through the middle of January. The archives are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be found in the Pius XII Memorial Library, Room 307.

BROWN BAG LUNCH: The department of campus recreation is sponsoring monthly "Brown Bag Lunch Discussions." The discussions are presented by registered dietitians and students from the department of dietetics and nutrition. Each month a different topic on wellness and nutrition will be discussed, once at the Frost campus in the Simon Recreation Center and once at the Health Sciences Center in the School of Nursing building. The next topic of discussion is "Healthy Resolutions" on Friday, Jan. 14 (Frost), and Friday, Jan. 28 (HSC), both from noon to 1 p.m. Also, the department will hold a cooking demonstration on Monday, Jan. 17 (Frost). HEARTLAND REGISTRATION: Registration is under way for the Heartland III conference, scheduled for May 22 to 25 at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. Nearly 450 representatives from 11 Jesuit colleges and universities in the Midwest and South will gather to reflect on how they are part of the mission of Jesuit higher education, celebrate the common mission they share and consider how they personally can make a difference in the cultures of their home campuses. Titled "Choosing to Make a Difference," the conference will feature keynote presentations, small group discussion and liturgical celebrations. HISTORY LECTURE: Dr. Elisabeth Perry, the John Francis Bannon, SJ, Chair in History and American Studies, will discuss "Women and the History of the Progressive Era" at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Knights Room of Pius XII Memorial Library. The presentation is part of the Arts and Sciences Endowed Chairs Lecture Series and is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Saint Louis University chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, the academic honor society, and Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. For more information, call 977-3647.

CUPPLES EVENTS: Samuel Cupples House is sponsoring several events in December. "Christmas at Cupples House" will feature an international cr¸che collection on display throughout the month. At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, the American Kanterei in concert will feature chants, carols, chorales and hymns for advent. General admission is $12.50 and is $7.50 for students. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The training and human resources planning office has announced its Professional Development Program schedule for December. PARKS HONOR: The Aug. 30 issue of U.S. News & World Report contains the "Year 2000 Annual Guide to America's Best Colleges." Engineering schools whose highest degree is a bachelor's or master's were ranked by academic deans and senior faculty members from across the country, and Parks College of Engineering and Aviation placed 32nd in this category. There are 322 academic institutions with ABET-accredited engineering programs in the United States.

MINIATURE WORLD: Now through Dec. 31, the McNamee Gallery of Samuel Cupples House is presenting "Great Moments in Architecture," an exhibit of souvenir buildings from the collection of Ace Architects. The hours of the exhibit are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Admission to "Great Moments in Architecture" is $2 alone or is included with the paid admission to Cupples House. STUDENT JOBS: Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit postings for any student-worker job openings (non-work-study) to the Career Center. Position descriptions may be faxed to 977-3486.
