Media Matters

Members of the media frequently call the University for experts on various topics. If your expertise can be used for a breaking news story, call your campus media representative. The following are a few recent national media hits. Space makes it impossible to print media mentions on the local level.

Jody Smith (health information management) was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times. Smith had written a book on careers in health management, which was the topic of the article that appeared in the Dec. 26 edition of the newspaper.

Dee Anna Glaser, M.D. (dermatology) was interviewed by the San Antonio News-Express, Orlando Sentinel and the Wilmington (N.C.) Morning Star. Glaser commented on her research of Botox to alleviate palmar hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms).

Barbara Beck (communication disorders) was interviewed Dec. 8 by the Associated Press for a story about a new program at the Central Institute for the Deaf that teaches elderly people who are losing their hearing how to lip read.

Raul Artal, M.D. (obstetrics and gynecology) was interviewed by the New York Times and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Artal discussed his research on the benefits of exercise during pregnancy.

Steven Verity, M.D. (ophthalmology) was featured in an online article on ABCNews.com. The article focused on the research of Intacs, a corneal ring implant. Verity was a lead researcher on the development and testing.

Dr. Joanne Kraenzle Schneider (nursing) was interviewed for the December issue of Fitness magazine. Kraenzle Schneider discussed the importance of positive thinking and visualizing goals and positive results when trying to stay on an exercise program.

Dr. Elisabeth Perry (history, American studies) was interviewed Dec. 6 by the Chicago Tribune for a story about Hillary Clinton's attempts to connect herself to Eleanor Roosevelt.

Nicolas Terry (law) was interviewed Dec. 6 by the American Medical News for a story about managed care issues.

Dr. Daniel Gentry (public health) was interviewed by USA Today Magazine. Gentry discussed his study of managed care's role in preventive health care.

Dr. William True (public health) was interviewed Dec. 28 by WGCH-AM 1490 in Greenwich, Conn. True discussed the role public health has played in increasing the life span of Americans over the last century.

Margie Sawicki (nutrition and dietetics) was interviewed by WQYK-Radio in Tampa, Fla. Sawicki was the guest for an hourlong discussion on New Year's resolutions for children.
