Parking Garage Opens at HSC

Construction work on the new "Hickory West" parking garage at the Health Sciences Center will be finished this month.
"We had so little rain that they were able to finish construction of the garage ahead of schedule," said Kathleen Brady, vice president for facilities management and civic affairs. "It originally was scheduled to open in March."
The new garage should be ready to open in late January or early February, said Chris Regan, director of service operations.
The 875-space facility represents phase two of new parking construction at the HSC. A garage with 1,000 spaces, immediately east of the new garage, opened last year.
The new garage is bounded by Hickory Street on the north, Carr Lane on the west, Rutger Street on the south and Theresa Avenue on the east, with entrances/exits on Carr and Theresa.
Hickory West is an "all-purpose" garage for faculty, staff, student, patient and visitor parking, as well as reciprocal parking for Frost campus faculty and staff. Disabled parking is available in both HSC garages.
Brady said that the only remaining work to be done involves some landscaping details and removal of the Nightingale parking lot, which also will be landscaped.
