Employees Invited to Share in Video Series on Jesuit History and Vision

Faculty and staff are invited to be a part of the University's shared vision in the new millennium.

Shared Vision is the three-part video-and-discussion series that explores the history of the Jesuits, the spirit and insights of their founder Ignatius Loyola and the guiding vision that animates Jesuit education in the third millennium.

Special letters of invitation are being sent to those employees who have joined the University within the past six months. Those who have attended either the first or the first and second Shared Vision session also will receive letters of invitation. However, all employees are invited to attend.

Nearly 2,000 faculty and staff have attended Shared Vision since the program began during the spring 1996 semester, and more than 350 have completed the three-part series. The office of mission and ministry is planning a follow-up program and reception for those who have participated in all three video-and-discussion sessions. Invitations will be sent later in the semester.

Shared Vision: Beginnings examines the beginnings of the Ignatian vision in the life of Ignatius Loyola, the development of the Spiritual Exercises and the founding of the Society of Jesus. It will be presented in the morning (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) on Feb. 9 in LRC 111 and on March 15 in Jesuit Hall, and in the afternoon (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) on Feb. 8 at Jesuit Hall and Feb. 29 in LRC 111.

The story continues in part two, Shared Vision: Transformation, which looks at how that Ignatian vision was transformed by the new cultures and new areas of knowledge it encountered and the new partnerships it formed as it spread around the globe. It will be presented in the morning (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) on Feb. 16 in LRC 111 and March 22 in Jesuit Hall, and in the afternoon (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) on Feb. 15 in Jesuit Hall and March 14 in LRC 111.

The third and final segment, Shared Vision: Transitions, looks at the transitions the Ignatian vision encountered as it became part of American culture and the modern era. Participants are challenged to consider thoughtfully the next step for those who want to continue the Ignatian vision in education.

It will be presented in the morning (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) on Feb. 23 in LRC 111 and March 2 and March 29 in Jesuit Hall. It also will be offered in the afternoon (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) on Feb. 22 in Jesuit Hall and March 21 and March 30, in LRC 110 and 112, respectively. To register or for more information, call the office of mission and ministry at 977-2509.
