Prayer Service Kicks Off Second Semester
|
The official opening of the spring semester will be observed at the University's 10th annual Interfaith Prayer Service at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Francis Xavier College Church.
The theme of this year's service is "A Time for Hope." Lunch will be served immediately following the celebration in the lower College Church.
Several different faiths will be represented at the gathering, notably Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. The service will include readings and songs from the various faith traditions and participation by students, faculty and staff.
Provost Sandra Johnson has canceled classes between noon and 2 p.m. to allow attendance by a larger number of members of the University community. The celebration is sponsored by the University's office of mission and ministry.
