Immel Wins Award for
Teaching Excellence


Vincent Immel, professor emeritus of law, has received the 1999 Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award was given to Immel in recognition of his outstanding career as an educator and for his many contributions to Saint Louis University.

Immel, a former dean of the School of Law, is in his 42nd year of service at Saint Louis University and his 52nd year of teaching law. He is a member of the American Law Institute and Phi Beta Kappa and serves as a member and past chair of the contracts committee of the Multi-State Bar Examination. In 1981, Immel received the Nancy McNeir Ring Award, a University-wide award for excellence in teaching. In 1994, he received the Missouri Bar Foundation's Spurgeon Smithson Award. He currently teaches courses in contracts and remedies.

Immel received his juris doctorate in 1948 from the University of Michigan. He also served in World War II as a field artillery officer, receiving a battlefield commission to lieutenant. He also was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
