Brain Awareness Week is March 13 to 19
|
The brain shapes everything we do. But many people don't realize the range of neurological disorders. They include Alzheimer's disease, addiction, learning disorders, Huntington's disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, depression and epilepsy.
During Brain Awareness Week, March 13-19, and throughout the month of March, the public will have an opportunity to learn about the strides that brain researchers are making in unraveling the mysteries of the brain and delivering treatments.
Saint Louis University is sponsoring a series of classroom visits, extracurricular events and the "Fourth Annual Brain Awareness Week Symposium -- Neuroscience Research: The Road to Clinical Breakthroughs." The symposium is jointly sponsored by the departments of neurology, anatomy and neurobiology, pharmacological and physiological science, biochemistry and molecular biology. The symposium is free and open to the public. All faculty, fellows, students and staff are encouraged to attend. The symposium will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in Lecture Hall A in Schwitalla Hall, with a reception to follow in the Thayer-Katzman Library. Speakers for this year's symposium will be Dr. Wolfgang Sadee from the University of California at San Francisco, Dr. Peter A. Fried from Carleton University in Ottawa and Donald R. Johns, M.D., from Harvard University.
