SLU Sponsors E-commerce Program

E-commerce is a hot topic in today's information age. The Internet has redefined business models, re-invented business processes, changed corporate cultures and raised relationships with customers and suppliers to a new level of excellence.

Top leaders in technology from across the country will discuss these issues at "E-Commerce: Strategies in Motion," presented by the School of Business and Administration and the Direct Marketing Association of St. Louis (DMA).

The conference, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Saint Louis University, will offer a variety of industry experts and executives from companies who have successfully integrated e-commerce initiatives into their business models. Topics will include creating value through e-commerce, bringing buyers and sellers together electronically, and integrating e-commerce into a company's strategy. Experts discussing these topics will include representatives from America Online, Yahoo!, IBM Americas and Dell Computer.

"The Internet changes everything," said Dr. Paul Boughton, chairman of the marketing department and conference co-chair. "What is taking place today goes beyond the mere adoption or embracing of electronic technology."

Boughton said the conference is designed for business leaders who experience the effects of the e-commerce growth. "E-business is all about changing the way we think about business models and relationships," said Katie Walthall, conference co-chair and a member of the DMA-St. Louis' board of directors. "The goal of this conference to stimulate the understanding of how St. Louis business leaders can participate in and benefit from this new and very exciting and powerful economy."

The conference will feature the following:

  • Mark Chassman will present "Get On Board the E-train." Chassman is the central region director of sales for the Internet marketing group of America Online.

  • Nir Kossovsky will present "Intellectual Capital in the Knowledge Economy." Kossovsky is chairman and CEO of PL-X.com.

  • Keith Piques will present "E-business: Opportunity or Threat." Piques is vice president of global marketing turbocharging systems for Honeywell International.

  • David Steward will present "Mobilizing Your Company for E-business." Steward is chairman and CEO of World Wide Technology Inc.

  • Jeff Swan will present "Straight Answers to Straight Questions." Swan is an account executive with Yahoo!

  • Dale Rebhorn will present "Building an E-business Strategy from the Ground Up." Rebhorn is business unit executive for the e-business software project office at IBM Americas.

  • Tom Vogel will present "Building a Brand Online." Vogel is senior marketing manager for Dell Computer.

"The Direct Marketing Association of St. Louis is delighted to have this opportunity to partner with Saint Louis University," Walthall said. "By joining forces, the academic and business community can foster the growth of the region's involvement in building and generating e-business."

The conference is open to the public, and the fee is $195. For more information or to register, call Sue Cullinane, executive director of DMA-St. Louis, at (636) 458-8362, fax (636) 458-2361 or visit www.dmastl.org.
