SLU Makes Large Purchase of PCs
|
Seven hundred and fifty new Dell computers have been installed on campus in the last eight weeks.
Installation of the computers began in December. The majority were installed by Jan. 14. "The machines we replaced were not Y2K compliant and fell way below the SLU standard," said Kevin Proot, director of technology support and analysis for business and finance.
The machines that were replaced were identified as non-Y2K compliant in an inventory that took place earlier in the fall.
Proot and a team of workers spent time over the Christmas holidays and beyond installing the machines.
The new machines run at a speed of 500 megahertz and feature Pentium III processors and 128 megabytes of memory.
Proot said that if the PC has a hardware problem that cannot be diagnosed over the phone, Dell will send a technician out by the next day to analyze the computer and order a replacement part. After the new part is received, the Dell technician will return by the next business day again to repair the PC.
