Human Resources FYI

Q: What is the "express classification" process?

A: The express classification process allows departments to classify a new position or reclassify an existing vacant position without formal review by the compensation office. This service option eliminates the need to complete a position analysis booklet when the classification is straightforward and the review time exceeds the value added. The compensation office has established a list of job titles eligible for the express classification process. If the job title is being used in the department, and the title is on the express classification list, the process can be used.

Q: I have had several internal candidates contact me or stop by and drop off a resume for a position I have open in my department. Can I interview them?

A: According to the University's promotion transfer policy, any employee seeking a promotion/transfer opportunity needs to complete a promotion/transfer application for each position for which she or he wishes to apply and submit it to the human resources office to be formally considered for any position. The assigned recruiter then will review the application to ensure the internal applicant meets the posted minimum qualifications, has successfully completed the orientation period and is an employee in good standing. In the event that you receive an internal applicant's credentials from the human resources office, you then will know that the applicant has followed the proper procedures and can be considered along with other applicants for your position. When you are ready to begin interviewing for your position, you should contact your recruiter to discuss how you would like to proceed.

Human resources would like to hear from you. Please address your questions to Michael Memos in Fitzgerald Hall.
