New Salary Structures OK'd by HR
|
The current salary structure for employees, consisting of 25 pay grades, has been completely revised.
All positions at the University have been reassigned to a new pay structure consisting of 11 pay grades.
Beginning July 1, the minimum starting salary for any position at Saint Louis University will be increased to $8.41 per hour, or nearly $17,500 per year based on a 40-hour workweek.
"The pay grades have been made much broader to provide opportunities for pay growth without employees reaching grade maximums," said Kathy Hagedorn, vice president for human resource management.
Hagedorn said that each year the University analyzes the competitiveness of its pay plan using salary data gathered from local, regional and national sources.
"These data allow us to determine if our salary structure requires adjustment, what other employers are planning for annual salary adjustments and if specific jobs at the University require special attention to maintain a competitive market position," she said.
The University has budgeted an additional $500,000 to be used for minimum grade and other equity pay adjustments for staff.
Again in fiscal year 2000-2001, an employee who is paid at or above the pay grade maximum for his or her position will receive a merit pay increase in the form of a single lump sum payment. Merit pay increases begin on July 1 for staff employees on all campuses.
