New Career Services Director
On Board

Saint Louis University has appointed Kathy Day as director of career services.

A graduate of SLU's MBA and undergraduate programs, Day comes to the University from Ralston Purina's Energizer Division and has more than 20 years of experience working at some of St. Louis' top firms.

Day said she is excited to return to the University, though she never really left. Since graduating, she has been a key member of several campus organizations. As director of career services, Day will oversee career development and employment assistance services for students.

"Kathy Day's appointment is part of an overall effort to enhance the services that students receive and strengthen the relationships the University has with employers," said Kathy Humphrey, interim vice provost for student development. "We want to enhance students' educational experiences by providing the best career services possible."

Career services is making advances is three key areas:

  • Career Counseling. New initiatives are being developed in three key areas: continuous service improvement, increased use of group sessions and workshops, and collaboration with University colleagues. Counselors hope to reach students as early in their careers as possible and are taking steps to connect with each University freshman.

  • Employer Networking. Career services will increase its efforts to develop relationships with important employers both locally and nationally. A recent study found that nearly 70 percent of respondents reported finding a job through networking.

  • Technology. Improvement teams in career services are researching a number of initiatives, including online assessments, job search forums and virtual career fairs. One project already off the ground is a new service that allows students to create and download their resumes for Career Services staff to match with employers.

"There are a lot of opportunities out there, and this is a very exciting time," Day said. "We want to make sure that our students are as informed and prepared as possible to be very successful in the job market."

Day is a member of the advisory board of the SLU Business and Administration Leadership Program for Women, where she mentors women early in their careers. In 1999, Day received the School of Business and Administration Joseph E. Boland, SJ, Alumni Merit Award.
