Human Resources FYI

Q: Does either state or federal law require an employer to provide employees paid time off for vacations and holidays?

A: No. There are no state or federal legal requirements that mandate employers to provide paid time off for either vacations or holidays. Employers have the discretion to determine how many vacation and/or holidays they will provide and whether or not these will be paid.

Q: Is the employer required to pay severance to an employee who loses his or her job when the organization eliminates a position?

A: No. There are no state or federal statutes requiring that severance pay be provided to employees who lose their jobs due to positions being eliminated.

Human resources would like to hear from you. Please address your questions to Michael Memos in Fitzgerald Hall.
