Shared Vision Fall Dates Announced
|
What does it mean to work at a Jesuit university? What difference does it make in the work you do? There are more than a dozen opportunities this semester to explore answers to these questions by participating in Shared Vision.
The three-part video-and-discussion series explores the history of the Jesuits, the spirit and insights of their founder, Ignatius Loyola, and the guiding vision that animates Jesuit education in the third millennium.
Special letters of invitation are being sent to those employees who have joined the University within the past six months. Those who have attended either the first or the first and second Shared Vision sessions also will receive letters of invitation. However, all employees are invited to attend.
The program has been available to faculty and staff since the spring 1996 semester. Since then, nearly 2,000 faculty and staff have participated in the program, with more than 500 completing the three-part series.
In an attempt to accommodate a greater number of faculty and staff, some changes have been made to the semester's offerings. Morning sessions at the Health Sciences Center will begin at 8 a.m. On the Frost campus, 11:30 a.m. sessions will be offered in the Humanities Building conference room to better reach those on the west end of campus.
Shared Vision: Beginnings examines the beginnings of the Ignatian vision in the life of Ignatius Loyola, the development of the Spiritual Exercises and the founding of the Society of Jesus. It will be presented on Sept. 19 (8 to 10 a.m.) and Oct. 18 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in LRC 111, on Sept. 20 and Oct. 4 (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) in the Humanities Building, and on Oct. 10 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in Jesuit Hall.
The story continues in part two, Shared Vision: Transformation, which looks at how that Ignatian vision was transformed by the new cultures and new areas of knowledge it encountered and the new partnerships it formed as it spread around the globe. It will be presented Sept. 26 (8 to 10 a.m.) and Oct. 25 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in LRC 111, on Sept. 27 (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) in the Humanities Building, and on Oct. 24 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in Jesuit Hall.
The third and final segment, Shared Vision: Transitions, looks at the transitions the Ignatian vision encountered as it became part of American culture and the modern era. Participants are challenged to consider thoughtfully what is the next step for those who want to continue the Ignatian vision in education.
At the Health Sciences Center, it will be presented Oct. 3 (8 to 10 a.m.) in LRC 111, on Nov. 1 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in LRC 112, and on Nov. 9 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) in LRC 110. At the Frost campus, it will be presented on Oct. 31 (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) and Nov. 9 (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) in Jesuit Hall.
