SLUStars Honored
at Ceremony

Eleven SLU Star recipients for this quarter were recognized at a special breakfast ceremony sponsored by human resources in August.

"The SLU Stars Program recognizes commitment to Ignatian values and to the mission of the University," said Kathy Hagedorn, vice president for human resources. The Staff Advisory Committee initiated the SLU Stars concept in 1995, and University President Lawrence Biondi, SJ, funded enhancements to the program this year to allow for its expansion.

"These individuals, nominated by other members of our SLU community, were selected by the SLU Stars committee in recognition of their exemplary professionalism, actions consistent with SLU's guiding principles and contributions to furthering our Jesuit mission," Hagedorn said. The following individuals were named as SLU Stars:

Sherry Ashford (School of Allied Health Professions), Debra Farmer (Parks College of Engineering and Aviation), Helen Fletcher (School for Professional Studies), Pamela Granger (School of Medicine), Elizabeth Lawrence (School of Social Service), Dr. Thomas McGinnis (Academic Services Center), Patricia Pisarkiewicz (human resources), Christine Thomas (College of Arts and Sciences), Argyle Wade (student development), Laurie Wiedner (College of Arts and Sciences) and Daniel Yip, M.D. (School of Medicine).

"We are delighted to provide those recognized as SLU Stars with a SLU Stars pin; breakfast with their administrator or dean, their department chair and guest of choice; a day off with pay (date to be approved by supervisor); Billiken Bucks in the amount of $50, to be used on campus; two free tickets to a University event; a sweatshirt with the SLU Stars logo; photos displayed on campus; and recognition at the annual Feast of St. Louis," said Robin Rodriguez, employee relations manager and chairwoman of the SLU Stars committee.

The SLU Stars were selected from 57 nominations submitted this quarter.

"The SLU Stars committee received so many impressive nominations," said Michael Memos, director of human resources. "The SLU Stars program celebrates our employees and their commitment to both the mission and guiding principles of Saint Louis University. This is just the type of program you would expect to see at SLU, an institution recognized as one of the best places to work by the St. Louis Business Journal because of our culture."
