Program expands school choices for
dependents of University employees

Dependents of Saint Louis University employees interested in free tuition for higher education soon will have a broader range of schools to choose from, thanks to a new SLU benefit program. But competition will be fierce.

Beginning with the fall semester of 2001, SLU will become a member of the Tuition Exchange Program, a reciprocal scholarship program that features more than 480 participating schools, universities and colleges. For a list of participating institutions, visit www.tuitionexchange.org.

The program, which carries the same benefit parameters as FACHEX, requires that each institution maintain a balance between outgoing students from SLU and those students SLU accepts from other schools in the program.

Because of this restriction, the University must limit program scholarship eligibility certification to five or fewer dependents per academic year.

Program applications must be submitted annually to the SLU benefits office, no later than Dec. 1, for the award year that begins with the fall semester. For an application, visit www.slu.edu/services/HR/beneform.html.

To be eligible, employees and their dependents must meet the requirements for both the dependent student remission at SLU and the Tuition Exchange Program. Requirements can be found at the same site as the application.

The program is not an automatic entitlement, and a dependent must meet admissions requirements of the institution he or she wishes to attend. Applications for the new Tuition Exchange Program and the existing Faculty and Staff Children Exchange program must be made separately. For more information, call the benefits office at 977-2304.
