ST. LOUIS---Eating healthy and taking care of your body is something that people should think about every day. But during the week of Jan. 19-23 it should be even more prevalent because it is Healthy Weight Week.
According to dieticians at Saint Louis University's School of Allied Health Professions, the third week of the year is tough on people whose New Year's resolution is weight loss.
"Every person on a diet should develop a personal plan that is evaluated every week," said Marjorie Sawicki, M.S., R.D., assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics. "Dieters should set a realistic long-term goal and choose weekly mini-goals for behavior change."
Ideally, Healthy Weight Week is a time when individuals should evaluate how and what they eat. Some of the things that should be determined are if the person is eating enough fruits and vegetables, if enough vitamins and minerals are in a person's diet and ways to control the consumption of foods high in fat.
While eating healthy is important, Sawicki notes that exercise coupled with a healthy diet will cause the person to feel healthier with a reduction in the waistline.
