Record Number of Students to Attend Thursday's Annual March for Life

SLU is sending largest contingency among all Jesuit institutions

Students are ready for the long
bus trip to the nation's capital.

ST. LOUIS -- A record number of Saint Louis University students will attend the annual March for Life in the nation's capital. The event, which will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, is expected to draw more than 100,000 pro-life supporters.

More than 100 SLU students have signed up for the trip, which is being organized by Students for Life, a chartered student organization. The University has one of the largest registered groups among the nation's 28 Jesuit institutions. Among the group are several SLU students studying to become Jesuit priests. Approximately 30 students from other area colleges and schools will join the annual journey.

Three charter buses will depart from the University Wednesday, Jan. 21. The SLU group will gather for a special Mass Friday, Jan. 23, with students from Georgetown and Rockhurst universities. The SLU students also have arranged a special tour of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"SLU's Students for Life is a positive, non-violent, pro-life organization that focuses more on the beauty of life rather than the destruction of it," said Chad M. Koehnke, a senior and Students for Life president. "We do not chant harsh words or perform any acts of civil disobedience."

The trip also is being coordinated by SLU's Loyola Center for Campus Ministry.
