School of Medicine Alumna to Head American Psychoanalytic Association

ST. LOUIS - K. Lynne Moritz, M.D., a 1970 cum laude graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, has been elected president-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA).

Moritz has served as secretary of the association since 2001. She will be president-elect for two years, then become president of APsaA in June 2006.

"During her tenure as secretary, Dr. Moritz has demonstrated her commitment to the association. She has also demonstrated her ability to develop teamwork among her fellow officers. The membership will benefit from her presidency," said Newell Fischer, M.D., the current president.

Dr. Moritz served as director of the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and as a training and supervising analyst from 1997 through 2001. Since 1982, she has been a clinical professor of psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. She was named one of St. Louis Magazine's Top Doctors in psychiatry in 2002 and 2003.

In addition to her service with APsaA, Dr. Moritz has been active in many other professional associations. With the American Psychiatric Association (APA), she has served as the APA's delegate to the American Medical Association, as well as district branch president and legislative representative. In these capacities, Dr. Moritz spearheaded the Missouri-state managed care regulation law, the state parity legislation and the defeat of the False Memory Syndrome legislation.

Founded in 1911, APsaA is a professional organization of psychoanalysts throughout the United States. The Association is composed of affiliate societies and training institutes in many cities and has approximately 3,500 individual members. APsaA is a regional association of the International Psychoanalytical Association.
