600 Freshmen Start Moving In Wednesday

Fredbird also will be at SLU to help welcome new faculty to campus

ST. LOUIS About 600 Saint Louis University freshmen will start calling St. Louis home tomorrow (Aug. 18) as move-in at SLU begins. Great visuals will abound as the students unpack their stuff, discover their new digs and gain more info about living on campus (with more than a little help from their parents of course).

Move-in begins at 11 a.m. and continues through 6 p.m. Most of the action will take place in a parking lot behind the main freshman residence hall located on Laclede Avenue near Grand Boulevard.

Facts about living at SLU:

  • 1,221 freshmen will live on campus this year -- that’s about 86 percent of the total freshman class.
  • Freshmen at SLU live together in a program called “The First Year Experience,” which includes special activities developed specifically for new students.
  • About 3,140 total students will live on campus this semester.
  • Most SLU classes start Monday, Aug. 23.

If you would like to interview the new freshmen and their parents or follow a family around, please call Clayton Berry at (314) 977-7117 to make arrangements.

In addition to the flurry of move-in activity, Fredbird will make an appearance to help the Billiken welcome new faculty to campus. The popular mascots will add some fun to a special faculty orientation featuring representatives from the St. Louis Cardinals, the Rams, Missouri Botanical Garden, Saint Louis Symphony and more. They’ll be on hand to highlight all of great things the region has to offer.

Don’t miss Fredbird hamming it up with the Billiken from 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, in Room 172 in the lower level of Busch Student Center, 20 N. Grand Blvd. The student center is located directly across the street from the parking lot where move-in will be well under way.
