Hundreds of Children Hunt for Easter Eggs at SLU

A gray sky and chilly morning didn’t keep children from searching for Easter eggs at Saint Louis University.

More than 2,300 people visited campus Saturday for SLU’s annual Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the office of alumni relations. Now in its fifth year, the event is a cherished time for children, families and University staff alike.

”The Easter egg hunt continues to become more and more popular for our alumni and their families,” said Mike Meehan, assistant director of alumni relations. “We enjoy welcoming former students back to campus as they show their little ones what a special place SLU can be. This is one of our favorite events of the year.”

More than 1,000 children ages 1 to 10 hunted for eggs all over the University campus. The eggs typically were filled with candy and trinkets, but some contained coupons for prizes such as Pez dispensers and stuffed animals. The Easter Bunny greeted all participants, and a multitude of cookies, cakes and other snacks were on hand.

The Easter egg hunt was covered by KMOV-TV Channel 4, KTVI Channel 2 and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Some incredible Saint Louis University Easter egg hunt facts:

  • Approximately 7,600 eggs were hidden.
  • The eggs were filled with 25,000 pieces of candy, including Tootsie Rolls, bubble gum, taffy and hard candies. Toys and prize coupons were included in some eggs.
  • It took University volunteers more than 20 hours to stuff all the eggs.
