The thoughts and prayers of the entire Saint Louis University community are
with the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi as they recover from Hurricane
Katrina. Saint Louis University also offers its best wishes to the affected
universities as they work to restore their campuses.
Because the opening of their particular institutions remains uncertain, many
New Orleans-area students have contacted Saint Louis University about attending
SLU for one semester on a student-at-large basis.
Several area hotels, including SLU's own Water Tower Inn, are offering special
rates for families moving in their students from institutions located in the affected
areas.
- Water Tower Inn on the Saint Louis University campus will offer a rate of
$59 per night. Just tell them you are with coming the disaster area when making
your reservation. Visit http://www.slu.edu/events/wti.html
or call (314) 977-7500 for reservations
- Drury Hotels in St. Louis is offering a rate of $69. Ask for Saint Louis University
rate "309848." Drury has three locations in the downtown area. For
reservations, call (800) 378-7946
- Sheraton City Center offers a rate of $99/night ask for the "SLU relocation
rate" For reservations, call (800) 325-3535.
For students from the affected areas, Saint Louis University offers the following information:
Can I still enroll in the fall semester at Saint Louis University?
Classes began at SLU on Monday, Aug. 29. Since time is of the essence, any
student who wishes to enroll must do so quickly. In all cases, you will need
to work closely with Lori Jennaway, summer school coordinator. Please call Ms.
Jennaway at (800) SLU-FOR-U
How do I apply as a student at large?
Complete the summer school application at: http://www.slu.edu/summer/registration.html.
We will use this application to accommodate New Orleans students.
How do I know if the SLU classes will transfer to my home institution?
Generally, a student requests permission from their home institution to take
classes at another university. Due to the nature of this emergency, that may
not be possible in some cases.
It is important for you to know that SLU cannot guarantee the transferability
of classes you take at our institution. We will do our best to match the classes
for which you registered at your home institution with those available at SLU.
We encourage you to attempt to contact your home institution to verify transferability
as soon as possible.
Is housing available?
New Information: With the influx of students from New Orleans-area institutions, the University’s housing system is full. However, members of the SLU community have offered to serve as host families for students. A list of host families is available from the department of housing and residence life. Undergraduate admission can help you contact the department for more information.
Is financial aid available?
Due to the sudden nature of this emergency, SLU is sensitive to your need for
clarity regarding financial aid. Unfortunately, we are unable to speak with
Loyola University- New Orleans or Tulane University about the financial aid
they have given students or about payments they have already received.
In the case of our sister Jesuit institution, Loyola New Orleans, we will work
with each student on an individual basis.
Federal financial aid (Pell, Stafford, etc.) is only available to degree-seeking
students or to those attending other universities under a consortial agreement.
SLU will make an effort to provide aid to those students who have demonstrated
need as determined by the FAFSA. Since you will need to enroll for courses quickly,
it would be best to assume that you will need to pay the full cost of tuition.
Please understand that we are unable to make a standardized blanket offer of
aid to all students but will work individually with each person.
Are payment plans available?
Saint Louis University will be developing flexible payment plans for your balance.
