Saint Louis University welcomes both a noted poet and a musician for a unique performance at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the Xavier Hall Theatre.
In “Thiefth,” poet Susan Howe and composer David Grubbs will present an electro-acoustic performance of Howe’s poems “Thorow” and “Melville’s Marginalia” for voice, computer and piano. A CD of this collaboration recently was released and has been included in Artforum’s “Best of 2005” and in a critics’ poll in “The Wire” magazine.
Howe is the author of many books of poetry and criticism, including The Midnight, The Europe of Trusts and Pierce-Arrow.
Grubbs has released eight full-length solo albums, most recently A Guess at the Riddle.
The event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, department of fine and performing arts and department of English. For more information, call Kami Hancock at (314) 977-3016.
