The Easter Bunny was on hand as more than 1,000 children hippity-hopped the grounds in front of Griesedieck Hall looking for 8,400 eggs hidden by Saint Louis University staffers.
Now in its sixth year, the Easter egg hunt started as a fun, family affair in 2001 to bring alumni back to campus and has grown in popularity every year.
"The Easter egg hunt continues to become more and more popular for our alumni and their families," said Mike Meehan, assistant director of alumni relations. "We enjoy welcoming former students back to campus as they show their little ones what a special place SLU can be. This is one of our favorite events of the year."
The Easter egg hunt was covered by several St. Louis media outlets.
Some incredible Saint Louis University Easter egg hunt facts:
- Approximately 8,400 eggs were hidden.
- The eggs were filled with more than 25,000 pieces of candy, including Tootsie Rolls, bubble gum, taffy, hard candy and toys. Some eggs contained prize coupons redeemable for mini-basketballs, stuffed animals and other special items.
- This year, the pre-stuffed eggs were ordered from a family-run business in Georgia that employs mentally challenged workers in sheltered workshops. More than 4.5 million of the company’s eggs have been distributed in all 50 states and around the world.
