New Erectile Dysfunction Drug Debuts During Superbowl

ST. LOUIS-Professional sports and ads for erectile dysfunction drugs are no longer strange bedfellows. By now, we are as used to seeing ads during sporting events for Viagra and Levitra as for Budweiser and Pepsi.

During the Superbowl this Sunday, yet another anti-impotence drug will debut to a national audience: Cialis, the so-called "weekender pill."

The drug's manufacturers, Icos Corp. and Eli Lilly and Co., began airing 15-second spots during the NFL playoffs - but the new 60-second spot will be the first to outline how the drug actually works.

Are doctors seeing the effects of these drug ads in their practices? Are the ads changing how men view their own sexuality?

Dr. James Cummings, chief of the division of urology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, can discuss the impact these ads have had on his patients. He also can discuss whether the new impotence drugs work for men who take them "recreationally."
