SLU Names Interim University LibrarianSaint Louis University has appointed Richard Amelung, Ph.D., as interim University librarian. Head of technical services for the SLU Law Library, Amelung will assume the position effective immediately and serve until a permanent University librarian is in place following a national search.“Dr Amelung is well qualified for this administrative post and received strong support from his colleagues,” said University Provost Joe Weixlmann, Ph.D. “I want to thank Dr. Amelung for his willingness to serve the University libraries and Saint Louis University during this transitional period.” Amelung succeeds Frances Benham, Ph.D., who resigned her position earlier this month to serve as the archivist of Pius XII Memorial Library’s Nathan Young Collections. Young was the first African-American judge in St. Louis. In addition, he was a writer, publisher, historian, artist, musician and champion in the service of the African-American heritage. Young, who died in 1993 at the age of 98, left his papers to the University. Weixlmann thanked the members of the University community who submitted nominations for the position and provided input regarding the candidates. “I look forward to the coming months as a time of growth and change for the libraries,” Weixlmann said. |
