Librarians Visit Legislators, Stress Cooperation and Resource Sharing

Several representatives of Pius XII Memorial Library attended Library Advocacy Day, held Feb. 1 in Jefferson City, Mo. Librarians Richard Amelung, Patricia Gregory, Martha Allen, Jane Gillespie and John Montre visited with members of the Missouri General Assembly, including Senator Maida Coleman and Representative Rodney Hubbard of the St. Louis delegation. The group also spoke with Robin Carnahan, the newly elected Missouri Secretary of State.

The event, sponsored by the Missouri Library Association, seeks to inform Missouri legislators of the importance of libraries. The St. Louis contingent, including librarians from public and academic libraries, stressed the importance of continued state funding for MOREnet, the backbone that provides Internet connectivity across the state, and MOBIUS (Missouri Bibliographic Information User System) the consortium that facilitates resource sharing among 56 academic libraries in Missouri.
