Don Whelan Accepts Vice Chancellor Position at Texas Christian University

Don Whelan

Donald J. Whelan, Jr., Saint Louis University vice president for development and University relations, has accepted a position as vice chancellor of university advancement at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. beginning later this spring.

“While I am excited about this new challenge, it will be difficult to leave so many dedicated and caring people at Saint Louis University,” Whelan said. “I want to thank Fr. Biondi and all of the talented people in my division for their support and encouragement in helping us achieve our fundraising goals.”

Whelan joined the University’s development staff in 1988 and was appointed vice president in 1997. His division includes development, alumni relations and University marketing and communications.

“I want to thank Don for his many years of service to Saint Louis University,” said University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J. “Don has always worked for the greater good of the University and we will miss his loyalty and dedication. We wish him well in his new position.”

Recently, Whelan has overseen the University’s $300 million Campaign for Saint Louis University, and headed up fundraising efforts for the Arena and Research Building Projects. To date, the Campaign has raised $232 million.

At TCU, Whelan will head the advancement office, with responsibilities similar to those he has at SLU.

Whelan will remain at SLU for an unspecified period of time before beginning his new position. Details on a search for his replacement will be announced at a later date.
