SLUCare Ambassadors Honored

An honorary club seeks to recognize those who go beyond their normal duties to make sure SLUCare patients have nothing but good experiences.

During an award luncheon Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Bannister House, SLUCare Ambassador inductees received a gold Ambassador pin. In addition, their names will be displayed on a plaque in their building.

This year’s SLUCare Ambassador inductees are Salvador Cruz-Flores, M.D., Lee McDurmont, Nora Porter, M.D., and Jill Powell, M.D.

Salvador Cruz-Flores, M.D., Associate Professor, Department of Neurology
Dr. Cruz-Flores is kind and caring. Always has time to ask if there are questions and always available. Mr. Renken’s wife’s sister was dying at SLU Hospital. She was not Dr. Cruz’s patient. He stopped by to visit and at the time her death was imminent he stayed there during this period and pronounced her death. He was very kind throughout the process.

Lee McDurmont, Manager, Surgery
Lee is caring, and serves with compassion and respect. He exhibits genuine sincerity and concern for the well-being of our patients. He strives for excellence and leads by example. When Lee sees that patients and families appear lost he goes out of his way to offer his assistance. Doesn’t just offer directions, but personally escorts them. The look of appreciation on the faces of the patients and families demonstrates how important this assistance is to them.

Nora Porter, M.D, Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine
Dr. Porter is a very caring person and physician. She shows compassion and respect, and exhibits real sincerity and concern for her patients, and is always very courteous and thorough. As busy as Dr. Porter is she has gone out of her way to see Ms. Lytle when she missed an appointment. On another occasion she needed to see Dr. Porter between appointments as she was taking a trip and needed oxygen. Dr. Porter and her nurse made a special effort to see that the airline has her oxygen ready.

Jill Powell, M.D., Professor, Dept. Of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health
Dr. Powell is physician to both the nominator and her daughter. Excellent and providing solution to several problems presented by her daughter. Dr. Powell showed genuine concern, sensitivity and gentle treatment to her both her and her daughter. Did not exhibit judgmental attitude. Provided education to them both. Keenly aware that the daughter was the patient, Dr. Powell allowed the daughter to elect whether mom would be in room during visits. Because of the experience and comfort provided, this patient would highly recommend Dr. Powell to her friends.
