Leadership Academy Participants SelectedTen participants were selected out of 38 applicants from across the University to be the inaugural class of the Saint Louis University Leadership Academy.“We were thrilled by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all the applicants, and the finalists truly reflect the high standards SLU has for its leaders,” said Karen Drake, SLU’s Director of Professional & Organizational Development. Candidates were screened for the quality of their responses to several questions, the strength of their supervisory recommendations, accomplishments at SLU, evidence of strategic thinking/behavior, demonstrated leadership ability, commitment to social justice, and ability to engage others in positive collaborative efforts for the common good. Finalists were also selected to achieve a diverse group that would reflect the university community. Academy participants will kick off their developmental experience with an orientation and overnight retreat at Manresa Center in September. While fulfilling their current job duties, they will work together to address challenges affecting the entire university over this year. “The goal of any quality leadership development effort is to build a more ‘leader-full’ environment, improving the capability of people and ultimately the institution. Long term, sustainable change should be realized over the next 5-10 years,” said Drake. The following represent the Leadership Academy Class of 2006-2007:
