ITS Assists Students During Move-InSince this Aug. 23, ITS has been focusing its efforts on assisting SLU’s 3,200 residential students.“S.M.A.R.T Desks” were set up in five different residential facilities. The IT staff working the desks answered questions and guided students on how to configure their pcs or laptops to access the traditional network or newly installed wireless network. The start of school has historically been a very busy time for ITS. The ITS Support Center has taken more than 1,500 telephone calls requesting computer assistance. That is more that three times the average call volume over the rest of the year. Although the volume for assistance was high at both the S.M.A.R.T. Desks and call center, it was overall down from last year totals which can be attributed to new functionality that allowed students to register their systems from home this summer. ITS staff also made presentations to SLU101 sessions and a variety of welcoming events. During this busy time, ITS encourages faculty and staff members to submit non-emergency ITS support issues to helpdesk@slu.edu.
