The Radiation Therapy Program from Barnes will join the existing Nuclear Medicine Technology Program in the newly formed Department Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapeutics. Hubble said the additional program will provide SLU students expanded options in imaging and therapeutics in the radiological sciences. The department has several curriculums available, including a pre-physicians assistant and pre-medicine option. The department also has a successful undergraduate research initiative for students interested in medical research. Saint Louis University houses the only Nuclear Medicine Technology and Radiation Therapy Program in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. “The market demand for nuclear medicine technologists and radiation therapists is very good,” Hubble said. “Students interested in either program can contact the department directly at 977-8526.” In other news, the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program received full re-accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology on June 30, 2006. The re-accreditation was granted for a full seven years. “This accreditation status is reserved for NMT Programs with an excellent history of outstanding performance,” Hubble said. “A summary of the site visit was very positive and the department received no recommendations or citations.” The NMT Program has received accreditation form the JRCNMT since 1971.” |
