SLUCOR Offers 12-Week Program

The Saint Louis University Center for Outcomes Research (SLUCOR) will offer a 12-week sequence titled “Practical Research Skills Series”. This series has no formulas, complicated computer programs or mathematical proofs. It is designed to explain the basics of research from the point of developing clinically important research questions to the point of interpreting advanced bio-statistical analysis.

Registration is $10 for each session, or attend all 12 sessions for $100. There will be no charge for students who pre-register. The series will be held in the Learning Resources Center, Auditorium B.

The presentations will last one hour with a 15 minute question-and-answer period. Feel free to bring lunch; dessert will be provided.

Sessions include:

  1. Testable Research Questions…..the starting point.
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19

  2. Study Design….the best, but realistic strategy.
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17

  3. Literature Reviews….effective, but not 132 hours long.
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7

  4. IRB / Regulatory requirements…..avoiding imprisonment.
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28

  5. Basic Statistics….making sense of……….. â,á,÷,ì,è.
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5

  6. Practical Power Analysis…how big is big enough?
    11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9

  7. Multivariate Analysis…..is this thing really significant?

  8. Categorical Data Analysis…..alive or not.

  9. Overview of Epidemiology….it’s not just about infections.
