IRB Revises Subject Recruitment Guidance

In order to provide further guidance to researchers on what methods of subject recruitment are acceptable, the SLU IRB has modified their guidelines, “Recruitment of Subjects for Research”. Revisions to these guidelines include the following:

  1. Marketing and communication material using Saint Louis University’s name or logo (e.g. press releases, paid advertising, study websites, etc.) should follow University standards. The office of University marketing and communications may be contacted for assistance and review of such materials prior to IRB submission. The IRB is responsible for reviewing the final version of recruitment material before it is used to recruit human subjects for research.
  2. If subject recruitment materials will be photo copied from the original IRB approved (stamped) submission, a 2” x 2” blank space should be included so that the IRB stamp does not overlap text. (e.g. flyer for bulletin board)
  3. If subject recruitment materials will not be copied from the original IRB approved (stamped) submission, the IRB requests that a footer be added on materials (when possible) that includes: IRB #, version date, and IRB approval date. (e.g. glossy poster)

The guidelines for “Recruitment of Subjects for Research” can be found on the IRB Web site.

If you have any questions regarding the materials referenced above, please email the IRB at irb@slu.edu.
