Speakers Needed for Student Leadership EventEvery year, Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, sponsors the Fall Leadership Conference as a way for Saint Louis University students to get involved on campus and learn crucial leadership skills. The event, titled “Your Journey, Your Life, Your Destiny,” is a half-day conference designed to promote interpersonal skills by focusing on communication, building relationships, and developing teams. This year, the conference will take place on November 4, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Busch Student Center on the SLU campus. We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for the event is Elaine Penn from CampuSpeak. Her presentation, entitled “Rev Up Leadership: Strategies for High Impact Student Leaders,” will discuss keys to successful communication, inspiring others, and unlocking the potential of those around you in order to work toward a common goal. In order to make this conference a success for all SLU students who participate, though, we are in need of qualified individuals willing to speak or present regarding one of these remaining topic areas during the afternoon breakout sessions:
The breakout sessions should not only inform students on the topic area, but should reiterate the importance of interpersonal skills in leadership and give students working ideas for themselves or their organization that can be implemented throughout their leadership journey. Each interactive session will be approximately 50 minutes in length and should target one or all of the three different types of leaders: emerging, advance, and passing the torch. Sessions are scheduled to take place following the keynote address (10:50-11:40) and two more sessions will be offered after lunch (12:40-1:30 and 1:40-2:30). If you choose to participate, you are more than welcome to attend the lunch (11:45-12:30). All sessions will take place in the Busch Student Center. If you are willing and able to present at the conference, please email Jamie Nichols (nicholsj@slu.edu), ODK Fall Leadership Conference Chairperson, with your name, contact information, preferred topic area, a brief summary of what the presentation is about, and the time you are available to present by Friday, October 6 at 12:00pm. This conference is not only important to the members of Omicron Delta Kappa, but it is a way for the students of SLU to learn and develop the skills necessary to become successful leaders on campus and throughout life. Your personal insight and experience will help continue to make the 2006 Fall Leadership Conference a great educational and developmental tool to enhance the overall experience of our students.
