Follow Arena Progress with Interactive Web Cam

The Arena project at Saint Louis University is coming to life right before your eyes - at least on your computer.

With the Gateway Arch and the city's skyline as a backdrop, you can watch the Arena take shape thanks to a dynamic new Web camera.

Capturing the project's progress is a special camera that takes photos every 20-30 minutes. When accessing the Web site, the most recent photo is the first to appear, but photos taken previously throughout the day are available as well.

The Arena Web cam is truly interactive, giving you the ability to view, print or e-mail images taken at various times of the day. Plus you have the ability to zoom in on the image. And it's a good time to check in on the Arena's progress because excavation of the site has begun.

Images taken throughout the day are archived, so you can see what the site - and the skyline - looks like at 5:03 a.m. To view previous days' images, click a date on the calendar to the left.

Once you've selected an image, zoom in by up to 600 percent using the sliding percentage bar under the smaller version of the photo. After that, use your mouse to move around in the image.

Check out the Arena Web cam by going to the Arena Web site and clicking on Web cam link.

Please note that Macromedia Flash Player version 7 or higher is needed to use the camera. The site often works best in Internet Explorer.

About the Arena at Saint Louis University:

The project, one of the largest in SLU history, includes a 10,600-seat Arena, a practice facility, athletics offices, locker rooms and training facilities. Expected to draw more than 400,000 people to Midtown St. Louis each year, the new Arena will be home to Billikens men's and women's basketball and will host a variety of other events such as concerts, conferences, trade shows and commencements.

St. Louis-based Clayco is building the Arena, with an expected opening in March 2008. Located on University-owned property on the eastern end of campus, the Arena will be visible from Interstate 64/Highway 40.

SLU recently broke ground on the Arena with a special ceremony Aug. 28, the first day of classes. The big event drew more than 600 students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, donors, fans and local dignitaries. For more about the groundbreaking, click here.

Earlier in August, the University received two $1 million gifts in support of the project. The Jack Taylor Family and U.S. Bank each have donated $1 million for the Arena, moving the University closer to the project fundraising goal. For more information about these generous gifts, click here.

Be Part of SLU History

There still is time to be part of this exciting project through the special Billiken Brick program.

Those who make a minimum $500 donation to the project will receive a personalized brick to be placed outside the Arena. Each brick can be inscribed with personalized text, which can be used to honor a family member or friend.

Special pavers also are available; qualified gifts receive premier placement and will spell out "SLU" in Recognition Plaza at the entrance to the Arena.

To make a donation online, go to arena.slu.edu or call 977-2499.
