Facilities Launches Expanded Paper Recycling Pilot ProgramIf you can tear it, don't trash it. That's the message from facilities management and civic affairs, which soon will unveil a pilot program that will expand the University's paper recycling efforts. The Anything that Tears open up recycling to previously excluded paper items, including newspapers, magazines, Post-it Notes and catalogs. Cardboard, construction paper and manila folders now can be placed in the blue recycling bins, as well. Anything that Tears begins as an eight-week pilot program for select buildings east of Grand Boulevard on the north end of campus: Busch Student Center and the science/lecture halls behind it, as well as Ritter, Tegeler, Fitzgerald, McDonnell Douglas and Oliver halls. After the trial period, the facilities division will evaluate the program to determine further expansion to all University buildings. Participation from the above buildings is essential for the program's success, said Jeff Macko, manager of grounds maintenance and custodial services. Macko added that proper use of the program is even more important. Be sure to place only items you can "tear," such as newspapers and manila folders into the recycling bins. Other trash must not be placed in these bins. The Anything that Tears program is designed by Quality Recycling Specialists
(QRS) in St. Louis. For more information, contact Macko at (314) 977-2956 or
