The 60-Minute Check-Up will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters, located at 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
At the event, Lim will explain two common diagnostic tests - the cardiac stress tests and CT angiography, a minimally invasive medical test that provides images of the patient's arteries - and their benefits. Participants will also learn how to make sense of their cholesterol reading.
"In the past, we stressed keeping your overall cholesterol below 200, but what's more important is how your cholesterol breaks down. This includes your good and bad cholesterol, as well as triglyceride levels," Lim said.
Lim also will introduce seven simple steps participants can incorporate into their daily lives to limit their risk for a heart attack. These steps include: regular exercise, eating a heart-healthy diet and not smoking.
Also at the 60-Minute Check-Up, St. Louis County Library reference librarian Christina Pryor will talk about library resources available to help people improve their health, and SLUCare will provide complimentary heart disease risk assessments.
