Preservationist Group Honors Hotel Ignacio Project
These before and after photos show the transformation of Hotel Ignacio. The Landmarks Association recently honored the renovation effort.
ST. LOUIS — Hotel Ignacio has been selected as one of the year’s “Most Enhanced Buildings” by the Landmarks Association of St. Louis. For more than 50 years, Landmarks has been a primary advocate for the region's buildings and neighborhoods.
Saint Louis University and the Lawrence Group spent nearly a year transforming the 100-year-old structure — originally home to Morgens Cleaners — into a chic boutique hotel.
The exterior of the building was meticulously restored, while inside of the structure was extensively renovated to create a sleek and modern space that maintains its historic feel.
The distinctive design of Hotel Ignacio’s 49 rooms and two suites reflect four different themes — fine art, performing arts, architecture and music —showcasing the hotel’s location in the arts center of St. Louis. No two rooms are designed exactly alike.
The major rehabilitation project, which began last June, employed four architects, 10 interior designers and 65 different subcontractors. The hotel officially opened to guests in April.
