13-014 - Encapsulation of fluidic tubing and microelectrodes in microfluidic devices

Researchers

R. Scott Martin, Asmira Alagic and Alicia Johnson-Hoover.

Summary

This intellectual property relates to microfluidic devices and methods for fabricating microfluidic devices having encapsulated tubing and encapsulated electrodes. The applicability of these devices enables integrating several off-chip analytical methods into the microfluidic device. This includes droplet transfer, droplet desegmentation, microchip-based flow injection analysis, and microdialysis sampling. The analytic performance of the devices is improved due to reduced dead volume and faster response. Further, the application of these devices can be extended to couple conventional capillary electrophoresis with electrochemical detection.
