Grantsmanship Education

Based on input received from a recent campus-wide survey, the Office of Research Services (ORS) is offering a host of new educational sessions designed to help faculty and staff negotiate the world of grantsmanship. The new sessions include:

Monthly Research Roundtable:

Scheduled on the first Wednesday of each month from 4-5 p.m., these informal sessions will allow faculty and staff to drop-in and ask the ORS staff any questions that they may have about topics related to grantsmanship, proposal submission, award management, or intellectual property. Meetings will be held on the North campus (Fusz Memorial Hall Conference Room) and at the Medical Center (IRB Conference Room, Caroline Building) simultaneously, on March 5, April 2, and May 7 th.

Developing Proposal Budgets
Thursday, March 6- 3:40 to 5:00- Smart Classroom-Fusz Memorial Hall, Rm. 360

An overview and demonstration of new Excel template developed by ORS to facilitate the process of building accurate research budgets that are compliant with University and sponsor regulations.

Preparing Contracts and Subawards
Thursday, March 27th, 3:00-5:00, LRC Auditorium B

Learn the fundamentals of how to expedite the preparation, review and approval of contracts and subawards governing faculty research projects.

Grantsmanship for the Graduate Student
Monday, March 31st- 4:00-6:30 p.m. Room 028, Doisy College of Health Sciences

Looking for dissertation funding?  Travel funding?  How to prepare a proposal?  This session is specifically geared to instruct graduate students in the principals of grantsmanship.

An overview and demonstration of the SF424 Research & Related Family of Forms, the federal government’s new system for electronic proposal submission. Special focus on using the new Adobe forms.

Facilitating Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations
Wednesday, April 24th, 3:30-5:00, Fusz Memorial Hall Conference Room 257

“Team Science” is the new approach to attacking scholarly problems.  This session will provide guidance on how to identify potential colleagues for collaboration, and the best means of managing such partnerships.

Sponsor Spotlight: The National Institutes of Health (101): Applying for Funding and Managing your Award
Wednesday, April 30th, 3:30-5:00, LRC Room 110

This workshop will introduce key funding programs (investigator-initiated research (R03, R21, R01, training, and Academic Research Enhancement Awards – R15), discuss proposal and budget preparation, and proposal submission and award management using eCommons.

Sponsor Spotlight: Applying to the American Heart Association Fellowship Programs
Thursday, May 1st, 3:30-5:00, LRC Room 110

This session presents information on the AHA’s pre-doctoral and postdoctoral fellowship programs.
