The Renaissance Program in Education
The Bachelor of Arts in Education, Special Education, embraces the objectives of a contemporary major that is grounded in the liberal arts and the foundations of education and instructional methodology.
Students seeking this degree complete a 120-credit-hour innovative program that includes four components:
- The pre-education core, consisting of 47 credit hours
- The professional education core, consisting of 50 credit hours
- The professional practicum, consisting of 11 credit hours of clinical experience and classroom teaching
- The Cognate, consisting of six credit hours, where students can explore an area of interest in reading/literacy, special education, science in the community, or computer science and technology
Students seeking this option can complete their Missouri teacher certification with 120 credit hours or less depending on transfer credits and prerequisites needed. An individual plan will be created for each student upon admission into the program.
Admission and program exit requirements for special education certification are listed in the B.A. in Education section of the Teacher Certification Program Requirements page.
