Brief Bio

Karen A. Myers, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of the Higher Education Administration graduate program at Saint Louis University and Director of The Ability Institute, home of the award-winning international disability education project, Allies for Inclusion: The Ability Exhibit and the Ability Ally Initiative. She has been a college teacher and administrator for over 30 years in both academic affairs and student affairs. Among other higher education courses, she teaches her self-designed Disability in Higher Education and Society course, has facilitated national webinars on disability, and served on several disability-related non-profit organization boards.

Dr. Myers served on the ACPA Foundation Board of Trustees, was co-founder and first chairperson of the ACPA Standing Committee on Disability, and was the recipient of the ACPA College Student Educators International Voice of Inclusion Medallion, Annuit Coeptis Senior Professional Award, Richard Caple Award for Research and Scholarship, ACPA Foundation Diamond Honoree, Disability Leadership Award, and Wise Woman Award. She is a writer, researcher, consultant and trainer in disability education and is the author of three books related to disability.
