Academic Probation

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required for a student to remain in good standing with the School of Law.

  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in a minimum of 12 semester hours with a CGPA below 1.70 will be dismissed.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in a minimum of 11 semester hours with a CGPA between 1.70 and 2.00 are on academic probation.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in between 11 and 15 semester hours in their first semester and have a grade point average between 1.70 and 2.00 are on academic probation. These students are required to register for the Legal Methods course in their second semester instead of Constitutional Law I.
  • The Legal Methods Course is a three-hour, pass/fail course, explicitly examining the analytical process needed to solve legal problems. Students will be required to complete Constitutional Law I in the next available semester. This requirement does not apply to part-time students in their first and second semester.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in between 11 and 15 semester hours in their first semester and have a GPA between 2.00 and 2.10 are required to register for the Legal Methods course in their second semester instead of Constitutional Law I. Students will be required to complete Constitutional Law I in the next available semester.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in a minimum of 24 semester hours with a C.G.P.A below 1.90 will be dismissed.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in a minimum of 24 semester hours with a C.G.P.A between 1.90 and 2.00 are on academic probation. These students must meet on a regular basis with the Director of Academic Support.
  • Students who have completed and earned a grade in a minimum of 42 semester hours with a CGPA below 2.00 will be dismissed.
