Information Sessions

An information session is hosted by a company and provides company information to candidates. Companies usually hold information sessions prior to their on-campus interviews. These sessions may be the evening before interviews or a couple of weeks before interviews. During the session company representatives will give an overview of the company, specific information about positions they are interviewing for an answer candidate questions.

Why should I attend an Information Session?

If you are planning to interview with a company who is hosting an information session, attendance at the session is mandatory. You will learn valuable information about the company, their expectations of candidates and employees and have an opportunity to network with company representatives in a more casual setting.

Most companies use information sessions as a part of the hiring process. Recruiters feel if you are a serious candidate you will be at their information session. Some companies use the information session to see how you present yourself outside of the interview room.

Who should attend an information session, and can I attend if I am not interviewing with the company?

In most cases, yes. The purpose of the information session is for candidates to learn more about the host company. Information sessions are usually open to all students regardless of major or year. If the session is only open to candidates interviewing it will be noted in CareerLink. Feel free to contact the recruiter listed in the event information on CareerLink if you have questions about attending.

What if I cannot attend?

Contact the recruiter listed on the event information in CareerLink. Let them know you will not be able to attend their information session due to a class or work conflict. Be sure to ask them if there will be information given you should know about prior to your interview.

How should I dress?

Business casual attire is fine. Be sure to bring a couple of copies of your resume, a pen, and paper for note taking.

How do I find out about Information Sessions?

Information sessions are listed on the "Interviews and Events" section of CareerLink.

Remember, you are not only representing yourself during on-campus recruiting, you represent Saint Louis University as a whole.
