This Learning Community seeks to promote citizenship and student engagement based on an understanding of cross-cultural complexities and issues. Designed for men and women of all majors, the community explores topics in American life, including political issues and racial and ethnic diversity. Looking back into the history of the nation, students explore the roots of its traditional strengths and its contemporary challenges. Students will also enjoy co-curricular activities in a supportive learning environment.

First-Year Interest Groups (FIG)

There are two co-enrollment options with this learning community.

    • POLS 110: Introduction to American Politics
    • U101
    • Spring Semester Requirement: Students must choose at least one of the following:
      • AAM 200: Introduction to African-American Studies
      • HIST 261: U.S. History from 1865 to the present
  2. FIG #2
    • ASTD 201: The American Experience
    • U101
    • Spring Semester Requirement: Students must choose at least one of the following:
      • AAM 200: Introduction to African-American Studies
