This is a basic checklist that will help make your checkout experience a smooth one.

  • Please remember that you should check out of the building within 24 hours after your last final, or by Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7:40 p.m., whichever comes first.
  • If leaving the university (graduating or not coming back) your mailbox key will be collected by hall staff.
  • You must make a check out appointment with your building coordinator 24 hours in advance of your desired check out time. Apartment Residence Hall Coordinators are Ben Shepard for Marchetti Towers, Mollie Mohan for Grand Forest Apartments, and Renee Skau for Village Apartments. Your Residence Hall Coordinator will be sending out an email with the subject line “Important Check Out Information” with essential information on how you are to schedule a check out appointment. It is critical that you read and follow the directions in the email when they are sent to you.
  • If you cannot check-out within 24 hours of your last final or by Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7:40 p.m., you must submit a written request for an extension to your Residence Hall Coordinator by 9 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2007. They will review your request and respond in writing with either an approval or denial, based on established criteria. Extensions cannot go beyond 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Below is a list of the most common situations which may warrant an extension and the supporting documentation needed.

Reasons for Exceptions

  • Students with finals beginning at Noon or later, on the last final day (listed in syllabus or professor's letter).
  • Students completing an internship for academic credit (provide letter from academic advisor)
  • People involved in a room change (senior week or summer housing)
  • International flights/outside the continental U.S. (provide copy of flight ticket)
  • Families with two or more college students at different institutions moving out on the same day (provide other university's move-out letter or a print-out from the University's website)
  • Campus departments and offices directly related to closing the campus (written request must be submitted from the Department to the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life)
  • Medical issues (requires written request from a doctor at the Student Health and Counseling Center)
  • Unforeseeable events
  • Dangerous weather
  • Graduation. Student must have applied for Senior Week Housing.
  • Any student who is requesting an extension because of a disability should make this request to the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life

Please note that those who are confirmed for senior week or summer housing do not need to request an extension, but should apply for these housing options, if eligible, through the online system.

  • Apartment residents should schedule a check out appointment based on the email that is sent to them by their building coordinator and then go to the main office in their respective buildings 10 minutes before that appointment to get a Residence Life staff member to check them out.
  • Trash and debris must be taken outside and placed in the dumpsters. Trash not placed in the dumpster will result in damage/trash fines for an individual or group of students. Please be respectful of hall staff and dispose of your own trash.
  • Spring Cleaning Salvage Drive: This year will be continuing the success of the last year's Spring Cleaning Salvage Drive and collecting salvageable items at the end of the semester. As you are moving out, take a look and see if you have any items that still have a useful life, and plan on donating them to the Salvage Drive. Depending on your residence, there will be salvagelocations either near dumpsters or in collectiontrucks. Signs in your residence hall or apartment building will guide you to the appropriate salvage locations. With your help, we can continue to lessen SLU’s environmental footprint and improve the surrounding community. For more info, email refind.slu@gmail.com. Salvageable Items: Clothes, kitchen supplies, non-perishable food, furniture, electronics, appliances, toiletries, cleaning supplies.
  • In order to accurately assess your room for cleanliness and damages at the time of check-out, you must remove all of your belongings prior to your appointment time (if your roommate is still in the apartment that is fine; simply have all of your items removed). Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to refuse inspection of your apartment if this condition is not met, which could result in an ‘improper check out’ fine.
  • The Department of Housing and Residence Life will not be providing any cleaning supplies, including vacuum cleaners. Students should make arrangements to purchase cleaning supplies that they will need.
  • The furniture and general condition of the room will be assessed at the time of check-out. While it is not typical, the university reserves the right to make additional assessment after a student checks out. You will be charged if any of the following applies (this list is not exhaustive):
    • You do not sign up for a check out time 24 hours in advance or if you fail to show up on time for your appointment.
    • You leave your room dirty or do not take out trash.
    • You fail to turn in your apartment keys.
    • Damage has occurred in your apartment.
    • There is any missing or damaged furniture.
  • Because many students have finals until the last day of move-out, we ask your cooperation in maintaining an environment conducive to studying through out the week. 24 hour quiet hours remain in effect through closing. Violators will be documented and sent through the Student Conduct process.
  • Please return to University Dining Services any utensils you may have accumulated during the year.
  • Looking to store your belongings during the summer? The Department of Housing and Residence Life does not have storage facilities on campus for students. However, there is a storage option for students needing summer storage.

SUMMER HOUSING

On Wednesday, May 14th, summer school students living in the residence halls will all check into Fusz Hall beginning at 8:00am. These students must check into their summer space by Noon and complete their check-out of their spring space by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14th. Students who are moving into summer housing should contact their Residence Hall Coordinator in advance to arrange a check-out time that will occur AFTER they have moved out their belongings.
