Eating Disorders and Body Image

Three major types of Eating Disorders:

Binge Eating: is episodic compulsive overeating that can lead to massive weight gain. Most sufferers eat when they are not hungry and continue to eat until they are painfully full.

Bulimia: is characterized by a rapid consumption of food followed by self-induced vomiting or laxative/diurectic use. Fasting and compulsive exercise may follow.

Anorexia: is characterized by an intense fear of weight gain, and a refusal to eat. Light eaters can be classified as having anorexia when they weigh less than 85% of their recommended body weight.
