Tonsillitis
and Pharyngitis | Tonsillitis
and pharyngitis are infections of the tonsils and the throat. The signs may appear
on the surface, but the infection always extends deep inside the tissues. The
infection is caused by bacteria or viruses, and sometimes from unknown causes.
You may be contagious to others, so take precautions around others until you are
without a fever for two days. Remember
to rest while you have a fever. Eat a balanced diet, but if your sore throat does
not allow solid foods, drink soups, or Carnation Instant Breakfasts. Drink a lot
of fluids. Complete all medications that are prescribed. Notify
your doctor if you have a body temperature over 102 degrees Farenheit, earache,
severe headache, drainage of thick material from the nose, cough that produces
discolored sputum, skin rash, shortness of breath or chest pain. Call
the Student Health and Counseling Services at 977-2323 with questions or to make
an appointment to be diagnosed and treated. |
