Medical Education Returns
to Saint Louis University
Among the many significant accomplishments of Father William Banks Rogers was the re-establishment of a medical department for Saint Louis University. In 1903, he arranged for the University’s purchase of the Marion-Sims-Beaumont College of Medicine located at the intersection of Grand and Caroline Avenues, approximately one mile south of Du Bourg Hall and the main campus. This acquisition came at a time when significant changes were occurring in medical education. More and more medical colleges were becoming affiliated with universities, and there was an increasing concern over educational standards. In 1908, the St. Louis Dental College also became part of the University.
